Assam lost their Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 opener by 29 runs to Andhra, bowled out for 114 in 19.4 overs while chasing 144 in Lucknow.

GUWAHATI: Assam suffered a 29-run defeat against Andhra in their opening match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy in Lucknow on Wednesday. Chasing a target of 144, Assam were bowled out for 114 in 19.4 overs.

Opener Pradyun Saikia (44) was the only batter who offered resistance, but he received little support from the top order. S. Ghadigaonkar (0), Nihar Deka (10), Riyan Parag (5), Sibsankar Roy (4), Jitumoni Kalita (9) and Saahil Jain (5) all fell cheaply. P. Raju returned the best bowling figures for Andhra, finishing with 3 for 20.

Earlier, put in to bat, Andhra posted 143 for 9 in their 20 overs. Captain Ricky Bhui top-scored with 46, while for Assam, Mukhtar Hussain delivered an impressive spell, claiming 4 for 20 from his four overs.
