The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) on Thursday came out strongly against the central government's decision to raise prices of premium petrol, commercial LPG, essential medicines, and toll gate fees — demanding an immediate rollback of what it called an "anti-people" move.
In a joint statement, AASU President Utpal Sarma and General Secretary Samiran Phukon said the decision had hit ordinary people hard at a time when many households were already struggling to afford basic necessities.
"At a time when people are desperate for a single LPG cylinder, the government has increased the price of several general and life-saving medicines, as well as toll gate fees. The central government must roll back the anti-people decision," the statement read.
The students' body has called on the Centre to reverse the hikes without delay.
