GUWAHATI: The State Government has instructed its departments to abolish the posts that have been vacant for a long time and have lost their utility, if any. The State Finance SIU (Staff Inspection Unit) has issued an instruction in this regard.
The Finance (SIU) said in the instruction, "All departments are requested to examine if any posts, which have been lying vacant for a long time and lost their utility, can be abolished and submit a proposal to the expenditure control branch concerned of the Finance Department as per procedure."
Meanwhile, the Finance Department extended the validity of essential vacant sanctioned posts for the period from 2018–19 to 2022–23 up to March 31, 2024, for their filling. The validity of these posts was until March 31, 2023. According to government rules, vacant posts cannot be filled if their validity expires. The Finance Department made this clear, as the government is going on a mega appointment drive. If a department cannot fill the vacant posts by March 31, 2024, the validity of the posts will lapse automatically.
