Guwahati: The influential All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has appealed for the best possible send-off to the departed inimitable singer, actor and filmmaker Zubeen Garg, who perished during a swimming incident in Singapore. AASU also asked the government to establish a world-class memorial to immortalize Zubeen Garg.
The leadership of AASU-president Utpal Sarma, general secretary Samiran Phukon and chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharjya-today appealed to the state government to observe the last rites in the best possible manner. They further suggested that the decision regarding the place for conducting the last rites for the departed singer should be taken by Zubeen's family members. The AASU leadership also asked the government to establish a befitting world-class memorial for the singer whose popularity extended well beyond the state's and country's borders.
AASU stated that its leadership has already conveyed their opinions on the conducting of last rites and setting up of the memorial to the Cultural Affairs minister and Chief Secretary, Assam.
