DEMOW: In the third month of 2025, good news came for the farmers of the Nitaipukhuri region of Sivasagar District under Demow Constituency. In a pioneering initiative from the office of the District Agricultural Officer, Sivasagar, a 10,000 kg consignment of scented rice, Joha paddy variety 'Kon Joha,' was flagged off from Nahat Bandarmari near Demow on Friday to Vietnam.

The consignment, for export to Vietnam, has been facilitated by Safe Agritrade Pvt. Ltd., Kolkata, a stakeholder based in Kolkata. The paddy was sourced from farmers in the Demow and Nitaipukhuri regions, with two Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) and Jyoti Agricultural Service Group comprising around 60 individual farmers led by Horen Tamuli of Udaipur. This endeavour was facilitated under active support from the Department of Agriculture, Sivasagar. This is an initiative of the Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART) Market Linkage (APART Cross-Border Trade).

The consignment was flagged off in the presence of Amrit Saikia, Assistant Director of Agriculture (DL), Sivasagar and the Sub-Divisional level officers Gonesh Pohuchungi, Rumi Bora, and Nilakshi Saikia with initiative from APART District Marketing Coordinator Biman Handique and AEA Nilutpal Mahanta.
