Guwahati: After the introduction of the currently relevant subject of Artificial Intelligence in the school curriculum for Classes IX and X, the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) will now introduce the subject, along with two others, for Classes XI and XII in the coming academic years.

A notification to that effect was issued recently by ASSEB (DIV-II). The notification informs all heads of institutions having Class XI and Class XII courses about the decision to introduce the three new elective subjects of Artificial Intelligence, Financial Literacy, and Sign Language in the curriculum of ASSEB (DIV-II) for students of the Arts, Science, and Commerce streams of Class XI from the academic session 2025-26 and subsequently for Class XII from the academic session 2026-27 onwards.

The ASSEB stated that the objectives for introducing these three subjects are to help the students to build digital literacy, critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills through the subject Artificial Intelligence;  to help students to make informed financial decisions by an understanding of key financial facts and concepts through the subject Financial Literacy; and to provide communication access to deaf and hard-of-hearing people in various settings in real life and to spread awareness about Indian Sign language (ISL) to support individuals with disabilities as the implementation of NEP 2020 envisages inclusive education and the use of ISL through the subject of Sign Language.

In this regard, the Board has developed a Google format to acquire the information from the concerned institutions that are interested in introducing the above-mentioned subjects.

It was further stated that the information will be required to design and plan training of the teachers in interested institutions.

Earlier, the subject of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics was introduced phase-wise, with the subject for Class IX introduced from the academic session of 2024-25 and for Class X from the academic year of 2025-26 as an elective subject.
