Guwahati: A one-day session of the Assam Legislative Assembly has been summoned by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on June 9. In this regard, Secretary of the Assam Legislative Assembly Dulal Pegu has issued an official notification.

According to sources, the renaming of the Mohanbari Airport at Dibrugarh as Dr Bhupen Hazarika Airport will be discussed during the one-day session.

The Assam Cabinet recently took the decision to rename the airport at Dibrugarh in honour of the state’s legendary singer, lyricist, poet, musician, filmmaker and balladeer, Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

In this regard, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on his X handle, “Dibrugarh’s Mohanbari Airport will soon be known as Dr Bhupen Hazarika Airport. With this renaming, Assam’s two capitals will have their airports named after the two Bharat Ratnas from the State — a befitting tribute to their contributions.”
