GUWAHATI: Assam has made it to the 52 tourists' destinations list of the New York (NY) Times, and that too, on the fourth spot from the top. Reacting to this development, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Visiting Assam won't just bring you closure to nature; it will bring you closure to your inner self. Still undecided on your visit to Assam? Check the New York Times' list of 52 places to go in 2025, and pack your bags. An unparalleled hospitality awaits you."
The tourists' destinations in the New York Times' list from the top are Jane Austen's England; Galapagos Islands, Ecuador; New York City Museums; Assam, India; etc.
UNESCO's recent World Heritage tag to Charaideo Maidam under the cultural property category, besides the heritage site tags to the Kaziranga National Park and the Manas National Park, might have added weight to Assam tourism. As many as 75 lakh tourists, including 26,129 foreign tourists, visited Assam in the last tourism season.
