GUWAHATI: Bomb scares gripped Guwahati today. City police, GRP, and RPF personnel have been on their toes since this morning to detect explosive devices purportedly planted in the Guwahati Railway Station and Gauhati University campus.

The Shillong police received a call from a person who threatened to blow up the Guwahati Railway Station with a bomb. The Shillong Police immediately informed the control room of the Assam Police of the threat. Soon the state police alerted personnel of the GRP and RPF, besides their own personnel. Since early morning on Thursday, thorough search operations have been going on in rail lines, Guwahati Railway platforms, with each and every passenger, nearby areas of the railway station, etc. The police have also deployed dog squads and bomb squads in the search operations.

In the meantime, the police received an email threat that claimed that bombs have been planted at as many as seven locations in the Gauhati University campus. The police rushed its personnel to the university campus. The search operation is going on. However, the search has not yielded any results till the filing of this report, neither at the railway station nor at the university campus.

According to the CPRO of NF Railway, the alternative cell number used by the caller has been identified, and investigation is underway toward that direction also.

The police opt to remain tight-lipped on the development as of now.

The bomb threats reportedly came from an outfit named Hind al Chabad.
