GUWAHATI: The state budget for the financial year 2025-26 has made several announcements.
CM's Jibon Prerona: Graduates passing out from government colleges in 2025 will get Rs 2,500 per month for one year, and research scholars will get a one-time grant of Rs 25,000.
Ensuring food security: The state government will provide subsidies of Rs 25 per kg for masoor dal, Rs 20 per kg for sugar, and Rs 10 per kg for salt through fair-price shops to the ration card holders.
Support for the tea community: The government will provide one-time financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to each of 6.80 lakh existing tea garden workers.
Pensions: The government will consider the restoration of the old pension scheme for regular employees whose recruitment process began before February 1, 2005.
Affordable electricity: The government will reduce the electricity rate by Rs 1 per unit for Jeevan Dhara and domestic category consumers having consumption up to Rs 120 units in a month.
Assam's space mission: The Assam government would like to set up its own satellite-ASSAMSAT-to ensure a continuous and reliable flow of data for the implementation of critical socio-economic projects.
Support for Annadatas: The government will extend support of Rs 250 per quintal for paddy, Rs 250 per quintal for maize, and Rs 500 per quintal for mustard over and above their MSPs (minimum support prices).
Proton Therapy Centres: The government will establish a proton therapy centre at the state cancer institution. This will be the first such facility in eastern India and the third in India.
Economic Corridor: The government will develop a Bhutan-Bodoland-Bay of Bengal Corridor to enhance logistic connectivity between Bhutan and India, linking it seamlessly with Jogighopa and Phulbari.
Heritage conservation: The government will set up its own OTT platforms to preserve Assamese cinema, literature, folk songs, music, documents, etc.
Bamboo smart city: The government has a plan to set up India's first bamboo smart city to prioritize bamboo-based materials.
Country liquor shops: The budget has made an announcement that from now on the country liquor shops will also be allowed to sell IMFL subject to obtaining proper licenses.
Bonmitra Abhiyan: This drive under the Gaja Mitro Scheme in the five most human-elephant conflict-prone districts will focus on enriching elephant habitats by deploying AI-based camera traps for real-time alerts on elephant movements. The compensation amount for people dying in man-elephant conflict will be raised to Rs 5 lakh from the existing Rs 4 lakh.
Land Policy Reforms: Simplifying the land use from agricultural purposes to micro and small industrial purposes. All cases of inter-religious land transfer between individuals will be given effect only after the due approval of the state government.
Sanmanpurvak Xekh Gaman: The government will establish a dedicated facility to ensure easy and dignified transportation of the deceased from outside Assam at government cost.
