GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma had a meeting with World Bank country director Dr. Auguste Tano Kauame on various World Bank-funded programmes here today.
The Chief Minister said that the discussion covered various topics like establishing plug-and-play industrial park infrastructure in the state, supporting PPP (public-private partnership) models in the agriculture sector through IFC (International Finance Corporation), prioritising agriculture and allied sectors, and building on the success of APART (Assam Agri-Business and Rural Transformation Project), and the like.
There have been several programmes and projects going on in the state with World Bank funding. One such programme is the $452-million Assam Resilient Rural Bridges Programme to improve the resilience of roads and bridges in rural areas. Other projects of its kind are the Assam Integrated River Basin Management Programme to improve water resources management and reduce flood and erosion risks; the Assam Agriculture Competitiveness Project to help poor farmers invest in tube wells and high-yielding seeds; the Assam Agri-Business and Rural Transformation Project to improve the resilience of agriculture value chains in target districts, etc.
