GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma met today with the Singaporean president, foreign affairs minister, and leading industry leaders, including those in the electronic and semiconductor sectors. The visit is significant in the run-up to Advantage Assam 2.0.
Meeting the President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the Chief Minister said, “This is absolutely a blessed moment! Try to keep the feeling of mind scripted during a memorable meeting with the President of Singapore.”
The Chief Minister said, “Our discussion covered ongoing collaboration projects, with a special emphasis on Assam’s role as a key pillar in the India-Singapore comprehensive strategic partnership. I also shared our full memories of the President’s visit to Assam in 2022.”
The Chief Minister met the Foreign Affairs Minister of Singapore, Vivian Balakrishnan. “We interacted towards strengthening the existing partnership between our state Assam and the Republic of Singapore under the overall framework of India’s Act East Policy,” the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister started the day with a meeting with Singapore’s semiconductor and electronic industry leaders. He said, “Semiconductors are an important aspect of cooperation between India and Singapore. I’ve invited leaders of industries like ASMPT, AEM, BEMI, Tamasek, Silicon Box, Nitto Denco, Heller, Mainhardt Group, etc., to partner with us at Assam’s upcoming electronic city in Jagiroad. We’re trying to provide more dynamism to Assam through Advantage Assam 2.0.”
The Chief Minister also met Sarbana Jurang Engineering Firm’s CEO and his team. “Today, we reviewed the ongoing Sarbana Jurang project in Assam along with the CEO and his team. We seek to leverage Singapore’s town planning expertise to build Assam’s future cities and industrial parks and enhance the ease of living of our people,” the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister also met ITE Education Services CEO Suresh Natrajan and visited their campus. “I had the opportunity to understand the quality of faculty and industry-specific laboratories in aerospace smart manufacturing and electronics. We are also exploring ways to leverage their expertise in setting up a world skill centre in Assam along with the private sector.”
