GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma met a minister and several business tycoons in Seoul today mainly on making Assam global semiconductor and renewable energy hubs.
The Chief Minister stressed the fact that South Korea, being a major player in the semiconductor industry, their expertise will be fruitful in taking forward Assam’s pursuit of creating an all-encompassing semiconductor ecosystem.
The Chief Minister met with the Minister of SME and Startup, Oh Youngju, and discussed startup-based industrial units with her. “We discussed a wide array of issues related to facilitating collaboration between entrepreneurs and startups based in the state of Assam and those in South Korea,” the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister met the CEO of Seoul Viosys, Lee Yong Joo, and discussed semiconductor units. “Seoul Viosys is an excellent innovative firm doing fabulous work in semiconductor and LED technology. I’ve invited them to participate in Advantage Assam 2.0 and consider joining Assam’s growing semiconductor ecosystem. We’re committed to welcoming all major semiconductor players,” he said.
“I also met Dr. Joon Choi, vice president of SK Hynix, one of the world’s largest semiconductor vendors. I shared my vision of establishing Assam as a global semiconductor hub and emphasized that enabling a corresponding semiconductor ecosystem is one of the major priorities of our government,” Dr. Sarma said.
In his interaction with Young HA Ryu, the vice president of GS Group, Dr. Sarma said, “I spoke in depth with Ryu, one of South Korea’s largest firms in renewable and clean energy, about Assam’s target to generate 3,000 MW of clean energy by 2030.”
The Chief Minister also visited South Korea’s Pangyo Techno Valley, also known as the Silicon Valley of South Korea. It is an innovative Korean concept that houses startups and entrepreneurs from diverse technology backgrounds—IT, biotech, and culture—under one roof. “I’m keen to ensure collaboration between entrepreneurs & startups in Assam and Pangyo Techno Valley, and we’ll take this forward in the coming days,” he said.
The Chief Minister is in South Korea to showcase Assam’s strength as a potential destination for investment. The Assam government will host Advantage Assam 2.0 in Guwahati from February 24 to 26.
