Guwahati: In the next one and a half years, the primary thrust will be given to the development of the state, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday. He also hinted that the AGP will remain as the ally of the BJP in the Assembly Election of 2026.
Talking to the media, the CM stated that one and a half years are left for the next assembly poll in the state. “This is why development will be the main focus of the state government during the run-up to the 2026 poll. We will work day and night for the people of the state. During this period, we will concentrate more on development than politics.”
When asked about Congress MLA Kamalakshya Dey Purkayashta’s remark on his willingness to join the BJP, the CM said, “As of today, no MLA will join the BJP. If necessary, joining may be possible just before the 2026 Assembly election. At that time, we will welcome such a development. If any MLAs join BJP now, there will again be the issue of a bye-poll. This is not the time to be busy with bye-poll. It is time for development. If anyone wants to join the BJP, he or she has to wait till January or February 2026.”
On the AGP-BJP alliance in the next Assembly poll, he said, “AGP is currently our alliance partner, and this will not be broken in the next 2026 Assembly election. But, in the next panchayat poll, the alliance will be at the local level, not the state level.”
