SILCHAR: The recent arrest of Burmese supari 'kingpin' Abub Mazumder led to a series of raids by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Cachar and Sribhumi. Sources said that the ED sleuths launched massive search operations at the residences of leading supari dealers in Silchar and Sribhumi towns, as well as other places in Cachar.
On Wednesday, a team of ED searched the Hospital Road residence of leading trader Dipankar Deb, followed by another operation at the house of Jakir Hussain Talukdar at the Chamra Gudam area of Silchar city. Another team of ED officials raided the rented house of Kabir Ahmed Chowdhury in Sribhumi town. Apart from these major raids at the residences of the key figures, the ED team also launched operations in Kalain, Katigorah, Dholai, and Bhaga in Cachar district.
A few days ago, Abub Mazumder, known as the "kingpin" of the Burmese supari syndicate, was arrested at his palatial residence in Silchar. Sources said that the ED teams carried out the search operations on the basis of Abub's confession. However, no official statement from the central agency was received, though the reports of raids were confirmed.
