Guwahati: The Director of Elementary Education (DEE) has informed Samagra Shiksha, Assam, (SSA) that errors have been found in 'post names' and 'post categories' of teachers on the Shiksha Setu portal and issued directions for urgent corrections to fix widespread anomalies in teacher records across Assam's elementary education system.
In a communication to the Mission Director of SSA, officials flagged errors in post names, categories, nature of appointment, and recruitment details for thousands of teachers. The letter cited a previous reference dated May 14, 2025 and revealed that 9,834 teachers - 5,346 in Lower Primary (LP) and 4,488 in Upper Primary (UP) - have post names not recognised by the Directorate of Elementary Education (DEE). Similarly, 9,598 teachers - 5,171 LP and 4,427 UP - were found to have incorrect post category entries.
Preliminary checks suggested that most errors occurred during self-entry by teachers, despite them being regular DEE employees. Before data correction begins, the letter urged fixing several portal-related issues:
Regarding category mismatches, it was revealed that teachers provincialised in 2013 and tutors provincialised in 2021 are incorrectly listed under secondary-level categories. Officials recommended removing such mismatched options. As for 'missing category', the "Teacher (Accommodated)" option is absent and should be added for both LP and UP levels, the letter further directed.
For new Special Recruitment Drive (SRD) 2024 posts, it was suggested that separate categories should be created for Assistant Teacher LP (SRD) and Assistant Teacher UP (SRD) under "Regular."
Registration confusion: Elementary teachers currently see both secondary and elementary options in "Post Category," leading to wrong selection. The letter also called for expanding the "Mode of Recruitment" menu to include compassionate appointment, OBB appointment, stipendiary appointment, and accommodation
Officials stressed that portal modifications must be completed before instructing teachers to update their records. Once rectified, revised lists will be circulated to stakeholders for further action.
