Assam: Eviction Drive Continues in Rengma Reserve Forest

 GOLAGHAT: The eviction drive is going on in the Rengma Reserve Forest. The Assam Forest Department, in coordination with the Golaghat district administration and Golaghat police, carried out a focused operation to remove illegal encroachments from the Regma Reserve Forest in the Assam-Nagaland border area.

A total of 180 unauthorized households in Pithaghat and 98 in Sonaribeel were evicted during Thursday's operation. Prior intimation was issued to all parties concerned, and officials confirmed that no individuals were present inside the structures at the time of the demolition. The entire process was undertaken with due sensitivity and in accordance with prescribed safety protocols to ensure a humane and peaceful operation.

Special Chief Secretary MK Yadava, speaking to the media, confirmed that the eviction drive had been progressing smoothly and without incident. He said that approximately 250 hectares of reserve forest land had been reclaimed so far as part of the ongoing efforts. He emphasized that the reclaimed forest land would be restored to its natural green cover as part of a broader ecological regeneration initiative.

Inspector General of Police Akhilesh Kr Singh noted that the operation was witnessing effective cooperation between the governments and police forces of Assam and Nagaland. District Commissioner of Golaghat Pulak Mahanta emphasized that no illegal activities by encroachers within reserve forest areas would be tolerated under any circumstances, and strict action will be taken in accordance with the law.

The operation was closely supervised by senior officials, including Special Chief Secretary MK Yadava, IGP Akhilesh Kr Singh, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Assam, the District Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police of Golaghat, and senior administration, forest, and police officers. Comprehensive security arrangements were in place, with personnel from the Golaghat Police and 142 Bn CRPF maintaining effective synergy with the 7th NAP and Indian Reserve Battalions from Nagaland.
