SIVASAGAR: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has successfully completed the capping operation at Well No. RDS 147A on Friday at 11:30 am, marking a major milestone in its well control mission. The operation, executed with remarkable precision and coordination, effectively brought an end to the gas discharge that began after a blowout on June 12, 2025.

At daybreak, ONGC's Crisis Management Team (CMT), in collaboration with international experts from Cudd Pressure Control and local operations personnel, began the critical task of removing the damaged Blowout Preventer (BOP) from the wellhead. The high-risk procedure was carried out with meticulous care to prevent imbalance or toppling during the lifting process.

Following the successful removal of the BOP, a pre-positioned capping stack was installed onto the wellhead with pinpoint accuracy. The gas flow was safely redirected to the top of the stack, achieving containment and control. The capping stack was then firmly secured, and the wellhead closed-marking the official end of gas discharge from Well RDS 147A.

The successful operation reflects ONGC's engineering excellence, strategic preparedness, and effective collaboration with both global and local partners. The corporation commended the relentless efforts of its Crisis Management Team, CUDD Pressure Control experts, and local field teams who worked tirelessly under challenging conditions and completed the operation without a single injury, fatality, or fire-related incident.

ONGC, through an official release expressed gratitude to the Sivasagar District Administration, State Government, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), and the local community for their steadfast support throughout the operation. Their cooperation was key to the safe and timely resolution of this complex technical challenge, the company remarked.
