GUWAHATI: A multi-sector team from Japan, led by its ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi, visited Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt. Ltd., Jagiroad, today.

The Japanese team took stock of the semiconductor plant physically and through interactions with the officials in its charge.

Talking to the media, the Japanese ambassador to India said that several Japanese companies are keen to invest in semiconductors in Assam.

The ambassador wrote in his X handle later, "Visited the Tata Semiconductor site at Jagiroad, Assam. Looking forward to seeing Japanese technology and expertise being utilised in the future."

The team comprises representatives of Mitsubishi Corporation Ltd., NAGASE Group, Tokyo Electron Ltd., Iwatani Corporation (Singapore) Ltd., JICA (Japan International Corporation Agency), KYODO News of Tokyo, etc.

Before visiting the semiconductor plant, the Japanese team visited the Ampri Bamboo Plantation Project at Tetelia in the Kamrup (M) district. The project is bamboo cultivation in an area of 4,392 bighas of land. The project aims to extend support to FPC (Farmer Producer Company) members to become more productive, achieve economies of scale by working together, and formalise the farm forest sector.

In the evening, the team met Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and discussed diverse issues. The Chief Minister also attended KIZUNA-5, an India-Japan intellectual conclave, in the evening.

The Chief Minister said, "The visit of a huge industrial and intellectual delegation from Japan in the run-up to Advantage Assam 2.0 has offered us a glimmer of hope for the future economic development of Assam. Advantage Assam is something that will create an ecosystem for investment in Assam. Parties who are keen to invest in Assam will do all to know the state, its potentials etc., for investment. We can give a clear picture as to how many countries and their representatives will take part in the Advantage Assam 2.0 on February 24 only. My appeal to all stakeholders of Assam is not to play any spoilsport to damage the conducive environment for investment that has been created in the state."

The visit of the Japanese team to Assam seems to be an immediate outcome of the Chief Minister's recent visit to South Korea and Japan.

"We recently approved the Assam Action Plan on BioE3 Policy, which will enable our biotech industries across five verticals to leverage technology and shift to the path of green growth and maintain parity with the Government of India's policies in the same line," the Chief Minister said.
