Guwahati: The trial in the MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds scam finally started in the Court of the Special Judge here today. The court had summoned 12 of the 13 named in the charge sheets filed by the CM's Special Vigilance Cell (SVC), and four of them appeared before the court and applied for bail. Bail was granted to dismissed Deputy Secretary Sarmistha Bora, suspended Assistant Executive Engineer Diganta Kalita, Secretary of Construction Committees Biswajit Deka, and suspended Asst. Commissioner, Kamrup (M), Hemanta Dutta. It should be noted that the suspended ADC and the then In-Charge District Development Commissioner, Kamrup (M), Sukanya Bora, had already been arrested. With no response received to the proposal by the CM's SVC for prosecution sanction against MP Ajit Bhuyan sent to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, the court did not take cognisance of Bhuyan's involvement in the scam.
