GUWAHATI: The NHIDCL (National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd) served a 'cure notice' to the construction firm for the delay in the construction of the two-lane Jogighopa Bridge Project over the Brahmaputra.

As per the original schedule, the bridge project was to be completed by November 2024. However, around 66 per cent of works were completed as of April 30, 2025. This abysmal delay in the progress of the project work led NHIDCL to serve the 'cure notice'.

In construction, a 'cure notice' or 'notice to cure' is a formal written notification given to a party, typically a contractor, when they are in breach of a construction contract. It informs them of the specific issue, defect, or failure to perform and provides a defined period to rectify the situation before further action, such as contract termination or legal proceedings, is taken. This clause is a crucial part of many construction contracts, ensuring a structured approach to addressing and resolving problems.

The total length of the two-lane extradosed cable-stayed bridge with its approaches across the River Brahmaputra on NH-17 at Jogighopa is 4.385 km. The total cost of the project, awarded to SP Singla Construction Private Ltd. on August 10, 2021, is Rs 746.76 crore. The NHIDCL issued the appointment date (actual date for starting the construction work) to the construction firm on November 12, 2021. According to the agreement, the bridge project was to be completed by November 2024.

Now, the bridge is likely to be completed by December 31, 2026, delaying it by 25 months.
