Guwahati: State BJP president Dilip Saikia said that there will be no compromise made on the subject of inter-party discipline. He stated that this applied from the booth presidents to the party president, ministers, MLAs, and other office-bearers.

Saikia stated this in the aftermath of a viral video purportedly showing the Assam BJP president scolding a party leader. The video was taken during the inauguration of a BJP mandal office in Nalbari’s Bahjani, where Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, and other leaders were present.

Dilip Saikia admitted to scolding the party leader, saying there was nothing to hide. He termed it an internal party matter.

“To run a party, it is important to maintain discipline, and I will not compromise on this. There is a discipline in our party, and whether it is the chief minister or any other leader, all have to abide by the discipline. The prime minister also maintains discipline. In the BJP, it is not that there are separate rules for the ministers and MLAs; it is the same for a booth president or the state president. All party members have to maintain discipline and run the party accordingly, taking it forward. Discipline comes first, everything else later. We will not take any attempt at indiscipline,” Saikia said.
