GUWAHATI: Oil giants operating in Assam—Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Oil India Ltd. (OIL)—produced 374.97 thousand tonnes of crude oil in October 2024. However, both the companies have missed their respective October 2024 production targets by a whisker.

This has come to light in the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation’s monthly review report on infrastructure performance in October 2025 published recently.

The October 2024 production target of ONGC in Assam was 97.21 thousand tonnes of crude oil. However, it produced 88.11 thousand tonnes of crude oil, compared to 88.69 thousand tonnes in October 2023.

The October 2024 crude oil production target of OIL was 332.69 thousand tonnes. The company, however, produced 286.86 thousand tonnes of crude oil in that month, compared to 281.53 thousand tonnes produced in October 2023. Though OIL missed the production target of crude oil in October 2024, it surpassed the production of the corresponding month in 2023.

The report of the Union ministry also said that the country as a whole produced 2367.37 thousand tonnes of crude oil in October 2024 against the target of 2698.90 thousand tonnes. In October 2023, the country as a whole produced 2489.26 thousand tonnes.

The report, however, said that the production figures of crude oil in October 2024 are provisional ones.

The Assam government gets a good amount of royalty from the crude oil produced in the state.
