Assam: Production of natural gas up by 80.93 MCM in state

The production of natural gas surged by 80.93 MCM (million cubic metres) in Assam in 2024.

GUWAHATI: The production of natural gas surged by 80.93 MCM (million cubic metres) in Assam in 2024. This information came to light close on the heels of the surge in crude oil production in the state this year.

According to the monthly review report on infrastructure performance in August 2024 of the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Assam produced 1393.25 MCM of natural gas—146.45 MCM by ONGC and 1246.80 by OIL—from January to August 2024. During the same period in 2023, the state produced 1312.32 MCM of natural gas. Of this, ONGC produced 142.01 MCM, and OIL produced 1170.31 MCM.

According to the report, the state produced 282.79 MCM of natural gas in August 2024 alone. Of this, ONGC produced 29.09 MCM, and OIL produced 253.70 MCM.

The country as a whole produced 3048.22 MCM of natural gas in August 2024. From April to August 2024, the country produced 15177.53 MCM of natural gas.

The report of the Union ministry has made it clear that the production figures of natural gas till August this year are provisional and subject to changes.
