GUWAHATI: The Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) department has taken a New Year resolution to replace all kutcha houses in rural areas with pucca ones. In the same breath, the Department of Tourism has also taken its 2025 resolution to boost water tourism in the state.
Talking to The Sentinel, P&RD and Tourism Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass said, “Since 2021 the state government has made remarkable achievements in the implementation of the Padhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). The dream of the Prime Minister is not to let any family in the country live in a kutcha house. In Assam, under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, we try our level best to translate the dream of the Prime Minister into reality. Our priority in 2025 is to make families who reside in kutcha houses get pucca ones under the PMAY-G.”
On the tourism sector, Dass said, “I took charge of the Tourism Department recently. The state has rich tourism potential. In 2025, our efforts will be to make Assam a tourist hub. The state is blessed with many rivers, including the Brahmaputra, Barak, Kopili, Subansiri, etc. We want to cash in on this potential through the development of river or water tourism in 2025. Homestay has its role in the tourism sector. It gives job generation in the state. We will prioritise this sector to boost tourism. We will take drivers as our stakeholders in the tourism sector, as they have an important role in the field, as they are the ones who directly communicate with tourists. They can give tourists additional information on various tourist spots in Assam.”
