Guwahati: The central Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Department has sanctioned Rs. 55 crore for a university and college in Assam under Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan PM-USHA. The districts of Barpeta, Dhubri, and Tinsukia were also rewarded for achievements in Gender Inclusion and Equity Initiatives.
This was revealed by state Education Minister Ranoj Pegu. He said, “The Ministry of Education, Higher Education Department, has sanctioned Rs. 55 crore to strengthen infrastructure facilities in a university and a college. Three districts have been recognized for their remarkable achievements in Gender Inclusion and Equity Initiatives and have been allocated Rs.10 crore each.”
The Education Department provided details about the amounts approved by the Centre, with Rs. 20 crore approved for Bhattadev University, Bajali, as a grant under a scheme to strengthen the infrastructure in universities. In a similar grant to Bilasipara College, Rs. 5 crore has been provided under the scheme to strengthen infrastructure facilities in colleges.
PM-USHA is considered a significant step forward for Assam’s education sector. Under this mission, an amount of Rs. 10 crore each has been approved for the three districts of Barpeta, Dhubri, and Tinsukia, which have been rewarded for their achievements in ‘Gender Inclusion and Equity Initiatives.’
