KOKRAJHAR: Chief adviser of AASU Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya pitched for collaborative efforts of the AASU (All Assam Students' Union) and the ABSU (All Bodo Students' Union) for the protection of vernacular mediums of Assam and called upon both the student unions to work together with more responsibility and collective decision.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the 57th annual conference of the ABSU at Bofofa Fwthar in the Kokrajhar district on Friday, Bhattacharjya said the AASU and ABSU have been working for the protection of indigenous people of Assam and will work together for their growth and development. For the swift sailing and development of the vernacular mediums, both AASU and ABSU have been working with collective responsibilities, he said, adding that for the improvement of vernacular mediums, they have a lot of responsibilities to work hand-in-hand.
"Assamese is the state language of Assam, and the Bodo language, which is the 8th scheduled language, is also an associate official language of the state to give priority," he said, adding that both the student unions want protection of other ethnic languages of Assam. He also said that AASU and ABSU will intensify their pressure on the government of Assam to ensure the development of vernacular mediums on a par with others. The government's effort to protect ethnic languages and medium is a step of praiseworthy, he said, adding that the government of Assam should be sincere enough to improve the vernacular medium with a holistic approach, and the AASU and the ABSU will keep an eye towards the protection and improvement of Assamese and Bodo medium and other ethnic languages for the greater interest of the future generation. He said the historic ABSU session at Bodofa Fwthar, Dotma in the Kokrajhar district, was a significant event for the Bodo medium and Bodo language, which have been working with many challenges for the Bodo medium. He said the ABSU's initiative to protect and develop Bodo medium will enshrine the Bodo language in particular and the state languages as a whole.
Bhattacharjya was accompanied by AASU secretary Naba Kr. Ray and other colleagues. Bhattacharya addressed the student's conclave in the historic session.
