Guwahati: Continuing its sustained crackdown against pan-India GST fraud syndicates and fraudulent Input Tax Credit (ITC) claimants, the Special Task Force (STF), Assam has successfully conducted coordinated raid and search operations outside the state and apprehended three accused persons from Kolkata, West Bengal, in two separate operations.
The STF apprehended Vivek Kumar Gupta and Surajit Barman from Tiljala, Kolkata, on August 2, 2026, in connection with STF P.S. Case No. 05/2026. Subsequently, on August 4, 2026, another prime accused, Vineet Kumar Poddar, was apprehended from Kaikhali, Kolkata, in connection with STF P.S. Case No. 02/2026.
The operations resulted in the recovery and seizure of mobile phones, SIM cards, and various incriminating documents from their possession.
Of the three arrested accused, Vineet Kumar Poddar and Vivek Kumar Gupta are residents of Kolkata, West Bengal, while Surajit Barman is a resident of Barama, Baksa district, Assam, who had been in hiding in Kolkata to evade arrest.
The arrested accused persons were brought to Guwahati last night on transit remand after obtaining the necessary orders from the competent court in Kolkata.
With these three arrests, the total number of persons apprehended by STF, Assam in connection with the recently detected fake GST/ITC fraud cases has risen to 12.
The investigation is in progress, and further legal action is being taken in accordance with law.
