Guwahati: At the conclusion of the last date for withdrawal of candidature, the stage is set for the Panchayat election 2025. The qualifying candidates will now be able to embark on their poll campaigns.

Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will also launch his campaign for the BJP-led alliance candidates from next week. The polling for the Panchayat Election 2025 will be held in two phases--on May 2 and May 7.

In phase one, polling will be held in 14 districts in Upper Assam and Barak Valley. The second phase of polling will be held for 13 districts in Middle and Lower Assam.

The last time for withdrawal of candidature for the polls was 3 pm today. A number of candidates withdrew their nomination papers before the expiry of the deadline. After 3 pm, the district authorities finalised the list of contesting candidates in their respective districts.

Candidates will be vying for seats as members in 21920 Gaon Panchayats (GPs), 2192 Anchalik Panchayats (APs) and 397 Zilla Parishads (ZPs). Elections will not be held in some constituencies, as the candidates won uncontested due to a single candidate filing of nomination papers or withdrawal of candidates.

In this Panchayat election, the total number of electors is pegged at 1,80,36,682 electors, of which 90,71,264 are male voters, 89,65,010 are female voters and 408 are of other genders.

The counting of ballots in both phases of the polls will be done on May 11. The results will be declared on completion of the counting of ballots.
