GUWAHATI: The state cabinet has approved around Rs 2,595 crore for infrastructure development.
The Cabinet met today with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the chair. The Cabinet approved Rs 958 crore to improvise 114 road-cum-embankments in 110 LACs (legislative assembly constituencies). When completed, people can use around 1,000 km embankments as pucca roads. It will bring about substantial changes in rural connectivity. It will make embankments gain strength and longevity.
Announcing the Cabinet decisions today, the State government's spokesperson and IPR Minister Pijush Hazarika said, "The Rs 958-crore package also includes the construction of six bridges and as many roads— Kokrajhar to Rupsi Airport, Gohpur-Dholpur Road, Dirak Gate-Pengeree Road, Rowta-Misamari Road and Rowta-Misamari Road via Phuloguri. Apart from these, the Cabinet approved Rs 1,031 crore to improvise five roads in Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Morigaon etc., for better rural connectivity.
"The Cabinet approved Rs 156 crore for land acquisition to expand Rowriah Airport, Jorhat.
"The Cabinet also approved Rs 450 crore for the construction of Tamulpur Medical College. "These are externally-aided funds and funds from the State government's resources.
"The Cabinet decided to upgrade the Silchar Municipality Board to a municipal corporation. The government will urge the State Election Commission (SEC) to defer the civic poll in the Sichar civic body till it becomes a municipal Corporation.
"The Cabinet decided to give land settlement to 103 financially weak families in Mariani town. Such land settlements in other areas will follow in phases.
"The Cabinet decided to design the state emblem. The Cabinet constituted a committee headed by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu to design it. The committee will take views from various stakeholders and experts for this.
"The Cabinet approved the review of Assam Rules of Executive Business, 1968 to improve administrative efficiency.
"The Cabinet discussed ways and means virtually with deputy commissioners to expedite the JJM (Jal Jeevan Mission) and procurement of paddy virtually. The Cabinet will constitute a high-level task force to oversee the proper implementation of PM Gari Shakti as mentioned in the Union Budget.
