Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has hit back at Raijor Dol president and Sivsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi over his criticism of the government's handling of the investigation into singer Zubeen Garg's myterious death.
Responding to Gogoi's remarks, CM Sarma said, "No frenzy or agitation can deter us even a step from our position. If anyone thinks the government will bow down out of madness, they are mistaken. As long as I am the Chief Minister, we will not yield to such frenzy."
Akhil Gogoi had earlier questioned how a public demand for a fair probe could be termed "madness." In a Facebook post, he accused the Chief Minister of "trying to conceal the truth" and "protect the guilty," saying Sarma's reaction showed "fear and guilt."
Gogoi further stated that if demanding justice for Zubeen Garg is considered "madness," then "such leadership cannot be called democratic."
The exchange has further intensified the ongoing political debate surrounding the singer's death, which remains under investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
