GUWAHATI: State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu told the teachers not to blackmail the government on gunotsav as the government was trying to solve teachers' problems in phases.
The All Assam Primary Teachers' Association (AAPT) said recently that every primary school in the state would be under lock and key during the ensuing gunotsav if the government refrained from fulfilling teachers' demands.
The primary teachers' association set a deadline of December 31, 2022, for the government to meet its demands.
Addressing newsmen today, Pegu said, "All concerned have to participate in the Gunotsdav. None should blackmail the government on gunotsav as it (the government) will not take that as a good gesture. The problems afflicting the schools in the state are age-old ones. It is not possible to solve all these problems overnight. The government is looking into the problems. The lower primary schools of the state have no post of headmasters. Traditionally, the senior-most teacher of a lower primary school is considered the headmaster. The teachers demand the creation of headmaster posts in lower primary schools. The government is considering the demands methodically. We want the teachers to stay away from blackmailing the government."
The Education Minister said, "The model schools under the State Government will continue to impart education free of cost. However, the model schools run by the Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan (ADS) under the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) will charge a nominal fee."
Gunotsav is a drive to evaluate the progress of students, school infrastructure etc.
