Guwahati: Installation of CCTV cameras in Guwahati by the Guwahati Smart City Ltd. (GSCL) has been tardy with only 30% overall physical progress registered to date. This was revealed in a recent report submitted before the Assam Legislative Assembly by the Departmentally Related Standing Committee on Housing & Urban Affairs department.
The Standing Committee had directed the Department to submit the detailed status report of the installation of CCTV cameras in Guwahati city. Following the direction, the implementing agency GSCL informed the committee that the survey for 770 locations out of 834 proposed locations has been completed. Moreover, 100 CCTV cameras have been installed from Paltan Bazar to Khanapara along the GS Road, with 100 poles and 100 junction boxes installed at various locations.
It was further stated that 2000 CCTV cameras have been procured along with the other IT hardware components. Also, 50% of the material has been delivered at the agency's warehouse, and the rest 50% of the materials/components are under procurement.
The GSCL also stated that the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering (EEE) of IIT, Guwahati, and the GSCL technical team have completed 90% vetting of materials, smart components and accessories. A temporary viewing centre has also been set up at the GSCL office for monitoring of the 100 CCTV cameras installed so far.
It was also mentioned in the report that the site survey has been done for an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) planned to be set up at DCP (Traffic) Building in the city's Ulubari area, and a letter of approval for space allotment has been sent to the DGP, Assam Police.
The report further stated that an overall physical progress of 30% has been achieved so far in the installation of CCTV cameras in Guwahati city.
