Guwahati: The School Education Department has already started taking action against schools with low attendance of students, not uploading attendance of students on the Shiksha Setu Portal and teachers not coming to schools on time.
As per the instruction of the MD, Samagra Siksha, Assam (SSA), a minimum of 80% of students should attend school every day. If a student remains absent for 3 (three) consecutive days, it is the responsibility of the school concerned to enquire as to why the student is absent. In such cases, these deficiencies show gross negligence on the part of the school in performing its duty.
In between April 1 and 21, the SSA examined the attendance of students in schools, as reflected in the Shiksha Setu Portal, and found poor attendance in many schools. Apart from this, the SSA found that 52 schools did not submit the daily attendance of students during the period mentioned.
Moreover, 1217 schools did not capture students' attendance on four consecutive days, from April 22 to 25, the SSA found.
The SSA has now written to the Additional District Commissioners (Education), Inspectors of Schools, District Mission Co-ordinators (SSA), and District Elementary Education Officers of all districts to furnish an action-taken report on the schools with poor attendance by May 25.
It should be noted that the Inspector of Schools in Barpeta district issued show-cause notices to 29 teachers in Patacharkuchi Vidyapeeth HS School for not arriving at the school on time.
