IMD Forecasts Widespread Rain, Thunderstorms Across Northeast India for Next 5-6 Days

Gusty winds of 30-50 kmph are expected over Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya on March 15-16; Panchgram recorded the highest rainfall in Assam in the past 24 hours at 14 cm.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning across several states in Northeast India over the next five to six days.

According to the IMD weather bulletin, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya are likely to experience rain over the next five to six days, while Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to receive rainfall on Saturday.

Gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 50 kmph are forecast over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya on March 15 and 16, and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from March 15 to 17.

The current meteorological condition over Assam is characterised by an upper air cyclonic circulation over Northeast Assam and its neighbourhood, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

The IMD forecast through March 17 calls for moderate rain very likely at most places across Assam, with no significant change in maximum temperature expected during this period.

In the past 24 hours, Panchgram recorded the highest rainfall in Assam at 14 cm.
