GUWAHATI: The Brihattar Guwahati Dugdha Byabasayee Sangstha (BGDBS) has decided to hike milk price by Rs 3 a litre from July 16, 2021.

At present, the retail price of milk is Rs 53 per litre, and that of wholesale is Rs 51 per litre. With this hike, each litre of milk will cost one Rs 56 a litre in retail and Rs 54 a litre in wholesale.

Talking to the media on Thursday, BGDBS president Padam Basnet said, "The Brihattar Guwahati Go Palak Sangstha (BGGPS) did inform us in writing in April this year that it would hike milk price. However, they put on hold the issue by keeping an eye on the COVID-19 pandemic.

"However, cattle rearers have hiked the milk price from July 1, 2021, by Rs 3 per litre. Now, we're procuring milk from the cattle rearers at Rs 51 per litre as against Rs 48 per litre earlier. They have hiked the milk price due to a hike in the prices of fodder and other essential commodities."
