TINSUKIA: Erosion has posed a threat to Mohanbari Airport and the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH). Several workers' quarters of Mothola Tea Estate are also on the verge of collapse.

Making this statement, DTDFERSF (Dibrugarh-Tinsukia District Flood & Erosion Resistance Struggle Forum) president Binod Kedia and secretary Prakash Rai said that more than 3 km of land had been eroded within a couple of days.

The DTDFERSF expressed serious concern over the severe erosion caused by the Brahmaputra in Maijan Oakland and Nogaghuli under the Lahowal Assembly segment in the Dibrugarh district.

A team of DTDFERS, after a spot visit, witnessed a sense of panic among the people in the area. The team also observed large-scale extraction of sand from the riverbank that has led the river to flow very close to the areas. Though the Forum raised the issue with the Forest department on several occasions, no action was taken, said Kedia.

The Forum has demanded the immediate halt of extraction of sand and sought urgent intervention from the Water Resources Department.
