Guwahati: In light of the situation arising from the Pahalgam incident, the NF Railway is now strengthening the security apparatus on the railway tracks and stations near the Indo-Bangladesh border. Teams from RPF, GRPF and BSF are carrying out intensive monitoring of railway infrastructure, looking for any signs of tampering, intrusion or potential threat and verifying the overall readiness of railway safety systems in the NE region.
Sources said that the Railway Board had alerted the Tinsukia, Lumding, Rangia, Alipurduar and Katihar divisions of the NF Railway. Instructions have been given to loco pilots, train managers, guards, railway track inspectors, TTEs, etc., to remain vigilant and inform the higher authorities in case of any suspicious activities noted by them. These operations are aimed at enhancing surveillance and deterring any untoward incidents along railway tracks that run close to the Bangladesh border.
NFR’s chief public relations officer, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, said that a major part of the initiative included a comprehensive security check at Badarpur Railway Station in the Lumding division. Security personnel thoroughly inspected the station premises, platforms and surroundings to identify and prevent any unauthorised activities, thereby ensuring safety for the travelling public. A joint motor trolley inspection was conducted between Silchar and Katakhal sections in the Lumding division. In the Katihar and Alipurduar divisions, joint foot patrolling was carried out. This area being in close proximity to the international border was patrolled intensively to reinforce a sense of security and round-the-clock vigilance in the border areas.
CPRO Sharma said, “The collaborative patrols have not only enhanced the sense of security among the railway staff and passengers but also acted as a deterrent against unlawful activities.”
