GUWAHATI: Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (PCC-IT), northeastern region, N. R. Soni underscored the significance of raising awareness about taxation, particularly in the northeastern states that currently lag in tax compliance. Soni said this at the inaugural function of "Taxpayers' Lounge" organized today by the Directorate of Income Tax (PR, P&P), CBDT, New Delhi, at the 14th East Himalayan Trade Fair, held at the Assam Engineering Institute Playground in Chandmari, Guwahati.
This initiative, organized in collaboration with the office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Northeastern Region (NER), Guwahati, aims to acknowledge taxpayers' contributions to nation-building and foster greater engagement with the tax system.
In his opening address, Soni expressed gratitude to taxpayers for their vital role in the country's progress. He emphasized that the Taxpayers' Lounge serves as a platform to educate, inform, and encourage individuals to actively participate in the taxation system, thereby cultivating a culture of compliance, responsibility, and transparency. Soni also launched the "Thank You Taxpayers" movie, which highlights the indispensable contributions of taxpayers to India's development. Ritu Singh Sarma, ADG, PR & PT, announced that the initiative would soon see the participation of students from prestigious institutions such as IIT Guwahati and AIIMS Guwahati, further broadening its outreach and impact.
Attendees were invited to explore the Taxpayers' Lounge, which showcased various exhibits aimed at demystifying taxation.
The ceremony concluded with the felicitation of officers and special guests in recognition of their contributions to the success of the event.
