Assam Police resume BMI testing
Staff Reporter
Guwahati: Assam Police is conducting state-wide Body Mass Index (BMI) tests for its personnel again, in a bid to make them health-conscious. The tests on Saturday started at the 10th APBN headquarters at Kahilipara. The BMI tests, to be held in phases, are part of a larger effort to promote wellness and enhance service delivery within the Assam Police force.
Announcing the resumption of BMI tests, Assam DGP Harmeet Singh today stated that the police personnel should remain health conscious as they do not get to eat and sleep on time. The police personnel are kept on duty for hours on end, sometimes for 24 to 48 hours. He stressed a healthy lifestyle, saying that if a person is healthy, the whole family is healthy. It is part of the police uniform to be healthy. Stressing that there is no punishment if any police personnel's BMI is out of range, the DGP said maintaining a BMI of below 30 is desirable.
BMI tests were started for Assam Police personnel in 2023 and were conducted again last year in a bid to make them stay healthy and look good in their uniforms. Many were found to be in the obese category, and they were instructed to bring down their weight to acceptable limits.
BMI is a very useful device available both online and offline to check if the body height matches the weight of the body. It is the best measurement technique of the amount of body mass that a person has in accordance with weight and height, as it could be a good indicator of maintaining fitness. It is a tool to figure out the excess of fat in the body and the status of weight in connection with the fat.
