Silchar: Following the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Brahmachari, a religious leader in Chittagong, the Barak Valley erupted in protest of the continuous mistreatment of Hindus in Bangladesh. Sanatani Oikyamancha, a newly founded platform of various Hindu organisations of the Barak Valley, announced “Bangladesh Chalo,” a march towards the neighbouring country at the Sutarkandi border in Sribhumi district on December 1. On the other hand, the “Indian Forum for Bangladesh Peace,” another platform consisting of heads of various Hindu religious ‘maths’ and mandirs of Silchar, had planned to bring out a massive rally on December 3 demanding security for the minorities of Bangladesh.
Advocate and VHP leader Santanu Naik, advocate Dharmananda Dev, Soumitra Dutta Roy, and Rajib Nath said the Hindus in Bangladesh had been subjected to systematic torture by both the Islamic fundamentalists as well as the government after the August coup. The arrest of Chinmoy Krishna was a part of the evil design of fundamentalists, they alleged. Maintaining that it was high time for the Indian government officials to warn their Bangladeshi counterparts, the Oikyamanch spokespersons said that on December 3 they would march towards the neighbouring country to send the signal that Hindus would not sit idle if the Hindus in Bangladesh were not provided adequate security.
