Guwahati: In the last meeting of the Empowered Inter-Ministerial Committee (EIMC) of PM-DevINE under the ministry of DoNER, one project has been recommended for approval and a second project has been recommended in principle for Meghalaya.
This was revealed in an office memorandum of DoNER dated January 16, 2025.
According to the office memorandum, a meeting of EIMC of PM-DevINE was held on December 27, 2024, wherein one project, namely gap funding for the Passenger Ropeway at the Shillong Peak Ropeway Project, Shillong in Meghalaya (Rs. 70.11 crore), was recommended for approval, and one project proposal named “Gap funding for Unity Mall, New Shillong Township at Umsawli in Meghalaya (Rs. 72.93 crore)” was accorded in-principle recommendation.
The total cost of the passenger ropeway at the Shillong Peak Ropeway Project is Rs 175.09 crore. Of the total cost, DoNER will bear the proposed gap funding cost of Rs 70.11 crore. During the EIMC meet, MoRTH, the Ministry of Tourism, and NITI Aayog supported the proposal for the project.
Regarding the second project of the Unity Mall, New Shillong Township at Umsawli in Meghalaya, it will involve a cost of Rs 205 crore, of which Rs 72.93 crore will be borne by DoNER as gap funding of the project cost. Various ministries accorded their approval for the project at the EIMC meet.
So far, a total of 35 projects have been sanctioned for the northeastern states with a total project cost of Rs 4857.12 crore. Of this, 5 projects entailing a cost of Rs 1437.62 crore are in Assam.
The Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for the North East Region (PM-DevINE) is a central sector scheme with 100% central funding.
