GUWAHATI: Taking cognizance of the problem of wrong capturing of locations when teachers give their attendance on the Shiksha Setu portal, Samagra Shiksha, Assam (SSA) has decided to increase the radius of geo-fencing attendance from the present 300 metres to 750 metres.
A webinar was held recently with District Programmers and Block MIS Coordinators of all districts on attendance tracking of students and staff in the Shiksha Setu app. The webinar was held under the chairmanship of Dr Om Prakash, SSA Mission Director and was attended by State MIS officials and representatives of RNIT Solutions & Services Pvt. Ltd. The Mission Director mentioned the difficulties faced by schools due to wrong geo-tag location of schools and directed RNIT Solutions & Services Pvt. Ltd to address the problems faced by schools and find ways to re-capture the school location.
The radius of geo-fencing attendance has been increased from the present 300 metres to 750 metres to minimize the problem of wrong capturing of locations so that attendance is not hampered. While capturing the geo-tag location through the mobile app, the user should wait for 15-20 seconds in a central area of the school premises for stable and accurate reading of latitude and longitude.
The option ‘Enable Geo-Location’ will not be visible in the district or block log-in until and unless either location is not captured or the captured location is not updated. In the case of amalgamated schools where classes are held in different campuses, a central place between the campuses should be selected for taking the geo-tag location within the fence. In case of amalgamated schools where classroom transaction happens within a distance of more than 1 km, the District Programmers and Block MIS Coordinators were informed that a Google sheet will be shared to submit a list of such schools to set exceptional cases of attendance capturing. The Mission Director said that the district administrations have to be careful and responsible for submission of exception cases, so that attendance cannot be manipulated outside the geo-fenced area.
It was also decided to provide a search option by the names of students in the drop box and all details of dropbox students, including names of schools, should be displayed to bring back students to schools for re-enrolment.
