Assam: Goreswar College to Mark Golden Jubilee with 3-Day Fest from July 6

GORESWAR: Goreswar College, a premier higher educational institution in Tamulpur district, has successfully completed 50 glorious years of its establishment.

To mark the occasion, a grand Golden Jubilee celebration has been scheduled to take place on July 6, 7, and 8 with a series of vibrant and colourful events.

As part of the celebration, the organizing committee has planned various programmes including a cultural procession, a gathering of former and current students, panel discussions, exhibitions, art and painting competitions, and cultural performances.

As per the schedule on July 6, local MLA of Tamulpur constituency, Jolen Daimary, will inaugurate the main entrance gate in the morning. Following this, Dhirendra Baruah, Secretary of Betna Siksha aru Krishi Unnayan Sangha will inaugurate the main pandal. The flag hoisting ceremony will be conducted by Karuna Kanta Deka, President of the Celebration Committee while Binoy Kumar Narzary, Secretary of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, will lead a tree plantation drive.

At 9:00 AM, tributes will be paid by retired teachers Amindra Nath and Kalimuddin Ahmed, and social worker Bipin Chandra Kewat. After this, the Golden Jubilee Memorial Monument of Goreswar College will be unveiled by retired senior lecturer Ajit Talukdar.

A drawing competition will be inaugurated by eminent artist Anjan Roy while the exhibition gate will be opened by District Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty.

A seminar titled ‘Socio-Economic Conditions of Greater Goreswar area, Prospects and Challenges’ will be inaugurated by BTR Executive Member Dharm Narayan Das. Notable participants will include Dr Ismail Hussain, Dr Dhrubajyoti Nath, and Sonbar Baruah.

The lamp lighting ceremony will be conducted by BTR Executive Member Diganta Baruah and Revenue Officer Mukul Choudhury.

On July 7, a cultural procession will be flagged off by social worker and Assam State Youth Commission member Ratul Sharma, with Assamese film actress Asha Bordoloi participating as chief guest. Following this, a souvenir will be released by General Secretary of Guwahati University Students’ Unity Forum, Pranjit Choudhury. Then, the gathering of former and present students will be inaugurated by the Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, Biswajit Daimary.

The event, to be conducted by Senior Advocate of Gauhati High Court Manash Sarania, will feature Dr Subung Basumatary, Registrar of Bodoland University, as invited speaker. Felicitation of retired teachers, staff and others of Goreswar College will follow at 2 pm, and a seminar titled ‘Education in Assam and Its Challenges – with Special Reference to BTR’ will be held.

This session, to be moderated by retired principal of Pati Darrang College, Jagat Bora, will be inaugurated by BTR Executive Member Daobaicha Boro. Participants will include BTR Director of Education JP Brahma, ABSU President Dipen Boro, and AASU President Utpal Sharma.
