Shillong: Alert troopers of the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a Bangladeshi national and seized Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) worth Rs 96,000 from his possession which was being smuggled from Bangladesh to India.

Acting on specific inputs, BSF troops deployed on the border along Meghalaya arrested Bangladeshi national Badal Mia, 66, and seized Rs 96,000 of FICN, smuggled from across the border.

Earlier this week, the BSF also recovered arms and ammunition along the Meghalaya border after these were smuggled from Bangladesh.

BSF Deputy Inspector General U.K. Nayal asserted that the BSF personnel deployed along the Bangladesh border are performing their duties with full devotion to stop all illegal activities and trans-border crimes.

As per reports, FICN and cattle smuggling syndicates are again gearing up and trying to revive their illegal trade. All stakeholders should step forward, co-ordinate and launch special operations with BSF to stop the menace of trans-border smuggling," he informed.

It is to be mentioned that Meghalaya shares a 443-km border with Bangladesh.
