You are way too young and energetic to retire: After MS Dhoni, PM Modi pens tribute for Suresh Raina

Guwahati: A day after MS Dhoni took to social media to share a special tribute sent to him by PM Narendra Modi, Suresh Raina also posted the letter he received from PM Modi and thanked him for his words of appreciation and best wishes.

Applauding Suresh Raina for his cricketing laurels through a letter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote that generations will not only remember him as a fine batsman but also as a very useful bowler who the captain could turn to when the situation demanded.

Notably, Suresh Raina retired from international cricket on August 15, minutes after MS Dhoni decided to call it time on his 16-year-long international career. Like his Chennai Super Kings captain, Raina will continue to play in the Indian Premier League.

Taking to Twitter, Suresh Raina quoted "When we play, we give our blood & sweat for the nation. No better appreciation than being loved by the people of this country and even more by the country's PM. Thank you @narendramodi ji for your words of appreciation & best wishes. I accept them with gratitude. Jai Hind!"

PM Modi clearly remembers Suresh Raina's refined cover drives during the epic 2011 World Cup quarter-final against Australia in Ahmedabad, something that, he feels, the all-rounder's numerous fans will miss after he followed Mahendra Singh Dhoni into international retirement.

"India can never forget your inspiring role during the 2011 World Cup, especially during the later matches. I saw you live in action at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, during the Quarter Final against Australia. Your anchoring innings had a big role to play in our team's victory." he said.

"Generations will remember you not only as a fine batsman but also as a very useful bowler who the captain could turn to when the situation demanded. Your fielding was exemplary and inspiring. Some of the best catches in recent international cricket have your distinctive imprint. I would take days to count the number of runs who you have saved by your athleticism on the field," PM Modi further added in his letter.

It is to be mentioned that MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina will now be seen back in action in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League – which is set to be played in the UAE.
