Guwahati: Today, afternoon rain left several parts of Guwahati waterlogged, disrupting traffic and causing severe inconvenience to commuters. After a few spells of rain, significant water accumulation was reported across several key locations in the city.
Waterlogging was reported in Chenikuthi, Guwahati Club, Lamb Road, Hatigaon, Wireless and Sonapur-Jorabat, including areas beneath the Maharaja Prithu Flyover. The connecting road towards Guwahati Club was also affected by water accumulation.
Visuals from Chenikuthi, Guwahati Club and Lamb Road showed vehicles navigating through waterlogged stretches, while commuters faced difficulties amid the deteriorating road conditions.
A major highway in Guwahati was also flooded following the rain , disrupting vehicular movement and causing traffic congestion. The situation near Sonapur-Jorabat was particularly concerning, with a portion of the National Highway submerged under rainwater.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department , Guwahati, has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and intense spells of rain at a few places over Kamrup and Kamrup Metropolitan districts in the next 1–2 hours.
The alert was issued in the public interest by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), amid concerns over further waterlogging.
