Guwahati: The Assam government has approved the establishment of an AMUL chilling centre in Biswanath district, marking a significant step towards strengthening the state’s dairy sector and improving market access for dairy farmers.
The new facility is expected to enhance the dairy value chain by providing better cold-chain infrastructure and ensuring improved handling and storage of milk. It will also support the procurement of quality milk from local farmers in an organised manner, helping to create stronger and more reliable market opportunities.
The initiative is aimed at improving farmers’ incomes by connecting them with better markets and strengthening the infrastructure required for efficient dairy production and distribution. The chilling centre is also expected to generate new employment opportunities for rural youth, contributing to local economic development.
The project is being seen as an important move towards creating a more organised and sustainable dairy ecosystem in Assam. By strengthening milk procurement, storage and distribution, the facility is expected to benefit dairy farmers while supporting the growth of the rural economy in Biswanath Chariali
