Guwahati: Today, fresh flood continued to disrupt normal life across Assam's Golaghat district on as rising water levels in the Dhansiri and Doyang rivers inundated several villages, forcing dozens of families to take shelter in relief camps.
The situation deteriorated after four gates of the Doyang Hydroelectric Project were opened, leading to a sharp rise in water levels across low-lying areas of the Bokakhat, Golaghat and Khumtai constituencies. As per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the Dhansiri River at Numaligarh continues to flow above the danger mark.
In Ward No. 1 of Golaghat town, floodwaters entered the Muktidham (Nagabali) locality, submerging nearly 38 houses. The affected families have been relocated to a relief camp set up at No. 1 Rupjyoti LP School.
Floodwaters also inundated No. 1 Parghat village in Numaligarh, affecting around 30 families. Katkatia village and several other low-lying areas have also been severely impacted, leaving residents struggling to access food, drinking water and other essential supplies.
"We moved to the relief camp yesterday after our village was flooded. Around 30 families are staying here, and officials visited us in the evening," said flood survivor Jyoti Gogoi.
Another resident, B. Thakur, alleged that despite staying at the relief camp for the past three days, adequate assistance had not reached them. "Our locality has remained submerged for three days. Officials recorded our details, but we have not received food or relief materials so far. We are cooking our own meals," he said.
District authorities said they are closely monitoring the river levels while continuing relief and rescue operations across the flood-affected areas.
