Guwahati: Today, the Basistha Police team arrested two suspected drug peddlers during an operation in the Khanapara area and seized a quantity of suspected heroin from their possession.
One of the arrested people has been identified as Amar Pradhan Bhate, a resident of Meghalaya. Police are yet to disclose the identity of the second accused.
As per police sources, the accused were allegedly involved in drug trafficking activities in and around Khanapara for a considerable period. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team from Basistha Police launched an operation in the area and apprehended the two suspects.
During a subsequent search, police recovered suspected heroin from their possession. Officers also seized 41 empty containers, which are suspected to have been used for storing and supplying drugs.
Police team said the arrests were made as part of an ongoing crackdown on the illegal drug trade in Guwahati. Investigators are now working to establish the accused persons’ alleged links with other individuals involved in drug trafficking and determine the extent of their network.
